As the name suggests, this blog is dedicated entirely to Thomas Cromwell. From his humble birth in Putney, c 1485, right up to his death in 1540. To be more specific, however, this blog will be focussing on the many and varied myths/rumours/slanders that have become entwined with the name of Thomas Cromwell. I want, without whitewashing, to examine the truth behind this rather colourful personality.
Although Cromwell’s career at the Court of Henry VIII lasted for barely more than a decade, it was a decade of the most extraordinary change in English society. From the split with Rome, to the development of the nation, and the total overhaul of Government; Thomas Cromwell was in the thick of it all. Therefore, I will be taking isolated, but key, events in Cromwell’s career, and examinging each as closely as possible in an effort to help bring the great man out of the shadows.
As for me, my name is Hannah Stewart. I am 32 years old, and I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I run this blog alone, and am solely responsible for it. I am not a trained historian, but I have been an enthusiastic “arm chair” historian (amateur) for many years, now. I have read, and continue to read, extensively about Medieval – Renaissance Europe, and especially enjoy the Wars of the Roses and Reformation eras.
It is my hope that through this blog people will learn to appreciate the great Thomas Cromwell a little more. Thank you for reading!
